Kos: Individual performance of candidate countries should guide EU enlargement
Brussels, September 11 (Hibya) - European Commissioner for Enlargement Marta Kos said Hungary supports European Union (EU) enlargement, particularly in the Western Balkans, and stated that the enlargement process should move forward based on the individual performance of candidate countries and their fulfillment of commitments.
European Commission member Marta Kos made statements regarding Hungary’s stance on the EU’s enlargement policy. Kos said she held meetings in Budapest with Prime Minister Péter Magyar and Foreign Minister Anita Orbán.
Speaking after the meetings, Kos said Hungary strongly supports EU enlargement, particularly in the Western Balkans, and noted that the process is important in terms of delivering benefits to EU citizens and strengthening security.
Kos said: “I saw a willingness to make progress on our enlargement agenda based on the individual performance of candidate countries and their delivery on the commitments they have made to our member states.”
