Lahbib: 1 in 3 women in Europe faces violence
Brussels, 24 November (Hibya) – EU Commissioner for Equality, Preparedness and Crisis Management Hadja Lahbib reiterated her commitment to combating violence against women and girls on the International Day for the Elimination of Violence against Women.
Commissioner Lahbib highlighted gender-based violence statistics in Europe in her statement.
She said: “One in three women in Europe faces gender-based violence. This is unacceptable.”
She reminded that each statistic represents a human story: “Behind every number there is a wife, a daughter, a mother, a sister.”
Lahbib stressed that the EU remains committed to combating this issue: “On the International Day for the Elimination of Violence against Women, the EU renews its determination to end violence against women and girls.”
