Lahbib: Respect for international humanitarian law is not negotiable
Brussels, January 26 (Hibya) – EU Commissioner for Equality, Preparedness and Crisis Management Hadja Lahbib stated that urgent, unhindered access is needed for life-saving aid and evacuations.
EU Commissioner for Equality, Preparedness and Crisis Management Hadja Lahbib issued a statement on the humanitarian situation in Syria and the ceasefire process.
Referring to the opening of the humanitarian corridor following the extension of the ceasefire, Lahbib said: “With the 15-day extension of the ceasefire, a humanitarian aid corridor has been opened in northeastern Syria. Unhindered access is urgently needed for life-saving assistance and civilian evacuations.”
Emphasizing the importance of international law, Lahbib concluded her statement by saying: “Respect for international humanitarian law is not negotiable.”
