Lahbib: Safe return remains impossible for Rohingya
Brussels, August 26 (Hibya) - European Commissioner for Equality, Preparedness and Crisis Management Hadja Lahbib said that more than 1.2 million Rohingya who left Myanmar following the 2017 crackdown continue to live in Bangladesh’s Cox’s Bazar region and that a safe return remains impossible.
Lahbib made a statement regarding the situation of the Rohingya people.
Lahbib said the Rohingya people were forced to leave the country following the crackdown in Myanmar in 2017, adding that despite 9 years having passed, more than 1.2 million Rohingya continue to live in Bangladesh’s Cox’s Bazar region.
Stating that the safe return of the Rohingya to Myanmar is still not possible, Lahbib said the European Union continues its support in the field of humanitarian aid.
Lahbib said the EU provided €15.3 million in support for food and nutrition assistance in 2025.
