On March 16, Russian Foreign Minister Lavrov held a meeting in Moscow with Kenya’s Prime Cabinet and Diaspora Affairs Minister Mudavadi. The parties conducted a comprehensive assessment of the current state of friendly Russia-Kenya relations and prospects for their future development.

Moscow and Nairobi reaffirmed their determination to advance political dialogue and mutually beneficial cooperation in the fields of trade, economy, culture, education, science, and humanitarian affairs. During the meeting, the need to strengthen the bilateral legal framework was emphasized, including the signing of an agreement to establish the Russia-Kenya Intergovernmental Commission on Economic Cooperation.

The parties also discussed international and regional issues, noting that Russia and Kenya share common positions in support of a multipolar world order and the principles of justice and equality in international relations. A desire was expressed to further deepen cooperation within the UN and other multilateral platforms.

The meeting also addressed the resolution of conflicts in Africa, the situation in Ukraine, and developments in the Middle East.

In his opening remarks, Lavrov expressed satisfaction with his visit to Nairobi in May 2023, stating: “Russia and Kenya have long-standing friendly relations and cooperation. These traditions help us develop our relations in all areas at this important stage of global developments.”

Minister Lavrov said that the talks would give new momentum to political dialogue and identify ways to expand trade and economic cooperation. It was also noted that cultural, humanitarian, and educational cooperation are among the traditional foundations of the partnership.
