Lavrov: We believe calls for a ceasefire are aimed at buying time
Moscow, October 12 (Hibya) - Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov said Ukrainian President Volodimir Zelenski had shifted from rhetoric about the “strategic defeat of Russia” to calls for a ceasefire, claiming that the initiative was aimed at buying time.
The Russian Foreign Ministry published Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov’s assessment of Ukraine’s calls for a ceasefire.
Lavrov said the rhetoric of a “strategic defeat of Russia” previously voiced by Ukrainian President Volodimir Zelenski and his supporters had been replaced by calls for a ceasefire. Claiming that these calls were intended to buy time and secure a pause in the fighting, Lavrov said he did not believe Zelenski deserved such a break.
Lavrov said Russia would not again place its trust in assurances and promises, adding that it would approach similar statements with caution.
