Lazzarini: A new step has been taken in the pattern of deliberate indifference
New York, Jan. 15 (Hibya) – Philippe Lazzarini, Commissioner-General of the United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees (UNRWA), said that a new step has been taken in the pattern of deliberate indifference toward international law and the United Nations.
UNRWA Commissioner-General Lazzarini stated that a new step has been taken in the pattern of deliberate indifference toward international law and the United Nations.
He said that Israeli forces raided an UNRWA health center in East Jerusalem, noting that it is a United Nations facility.
Lazzarini added that Israeli authorities subsequently ordered the center to be closed for 30 days, preventing Palestinian refugees from accessing essential health services.
He also noted that plans are in place to cut water and electricity supplies to UNRWA facilities in the coming weeks, continuing:
“This situation is a direct result of legislation adopted by the Israeli parliament in December, which further tightens existing anti-UNRWA laws enacted in 2024. The recent ruling of the International Court of Justice once again confirmed that, under international law, the State of Israel is obligated to facilitate—not hinder or prevent—the activities of UNRWA.”
