Leyen: Europe will always stand by media freedom
Brussels, May 3 (Hibya) – European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen stated that Europe will always stand by media freedom and pluralism.
On World Press Freedom Day, von der Leyen said they honor the men and women who dedicate their lives to truth.
She emphasized that journalists work tirelessly to inform the public: “They hold power accountable. They speak out. They challenge the status quo. And sometimes they pay the highest price. Independent journalism is vital.”
Von der Leyen stated that this is essential for free societies and democracies, adding:
“It is our duty to support and protect journalists so they can continue their work without pressure. Europe will always stand by media freedom and pluralism.”
