Lula: We have taken new measures to reduce the impact of rising fuel prices
Brazil, September 10 (Hibya) - Brazilian President Luiz Inacio Lula da Silva said global oil prices had risen due to conflicts in the Middle East and announced that he had signed new measures aimed at reducing the impact of higher fuel prices on Brazilians' household budgets.
Lula said in a post on his social media account that under the measures, federal taxes on gasoline would be reduced by 0.63 Brazilian reais per liter.
Stating that federal taxes on ethanol had been reduced to zero, Lula said the measure would result in a discount of 0.19 reais per liter.
Lula said that for diesel, the government would initially provide support of 1 real per liter to help keep prices under control.
Stating that they would not allow an international crisis to increase the burden on Brazilian families' budgets, Lula said they would continue monitoring prices and taking the necessary measures to protect the economy and people's household finances.
