Luxon: Every vote matters, I urge voters to support the National Party
Wellington, November 6 (Hibya) – New Zealand National Party leader Christopher Luxon emphasized ahead of the election that every vote mattered and urged voters to cast their ballots for the National Party. While defending his party's plans for the economy, employment and the cost of living, Luxon argued that a potential Labour-led coalition could lead to increased borrowing and higher taxes.
New Zealand National Party leader Christopher Luxon renewed his call for voters to support the National Party in his final social media statement ahead of the general election.
Stating that the election would be closely contested and that every vote mattered, Luxon said the National Party needed another three-year term to continue implementing its economic plan.
Luxon said his party's plan aimed to deliver a stronger economy, more jobs, higher wages, lower mortgage interest rates, reduced public debt and a lower cost of living. He also listed a commitment not to introduce new taxes among the party's promises.
Luxon criticized the possibility of a Labour-led coalition that would also include the Greens, arguing that such a government could result in increased public spending, borrowing and higher taxes. He also raised the possibility that Green Party co-leader Chlöe Swarbrick could become finance minister.
Noting that no further social media posts could be published after midnight under Electoral Commission rules, Luxon concluded his statement with the appeal: "Let's not leave the plan unfinished. Stick with the plan and vote National."
New Zealand's general election is scheduled to take place on November 7, 2026.
