According to the United States Geological Survey (USGS), the epicenter of the earthquake was about 111 kilometers east of Petropavlovsk-Kamchatsky at a depth of 39.5 kilometers.

The regional governor, Vladimir Solodov, announced on his Telegram channel that after a strong earthquake on the eastern coast of the peninsula, a tsunami warning was declared in Kamchatka.

According to the regional Emergency Ministry’s calculations, in settlements the wave height is not expected to exceed "26 centimeters in the Aleut Municipal District, 37 centimeters in the Ust-Kamchatsky Municipal District, and 9 centimeters in the Petropavlovsk-Kamchatsky Urban District". The highest waves, up to 120 centimeters, could occur in the area of Cape Mayachny and Khalaktyrsky Beach.

Residents were urged to stay away from the coast. Ships in coastal waters were advised "to move beyond the 50-meter isobath, heading perpendicularly from the shoreline into the ocean".

The governor urged citizens to remain calm and pay attention to information from official sources.

Elena Semenova, head of the Yuzhno-Sakhalinsk Seismic Station, said that a tsunami warning was also declared in the Severo-Kurilsky District. According to the Main Directorate of the Sakhalin Region Emergency Ministry, a wave up to 0.5 meters high is expected to reach the islands of Paramushir and Shumshu at 15:07.

On Saturday, an earthquake with a magnitude of 6.3 (according to other sources 7.7) occurred off the eastern coast of Kamchatka, and tremors were felt in the peninsula’s settlements. According to the geophysical service, the epicenter was 123 kilometers from Petropavlovsk-Kamchatsky. The focus of the earthquake was at a depth of 46.8 kilometers.
