Deniz polisinden Adalar çevresinde 'deniz taksi' denetimi

Last week, more than 50 people were killed in clashes between protesters and riot police. The protests erupted over the government’s social media ban but quickly grew into a broader movement against corruption in the country.

The ban was lifted on Monday, but this did not calm protesters, who on Tuesday stormed the parliament building in Kathmandu and set it on fire. Prime Minister K.P. Sharma Oli resigned and fled the country.

Karki was sworn in as Prime Minister following talks between protesters and Nepal’s President Ram Chandra Poudel. The country’s parliament was also dissolved, and general elections were scheduled for March next year.

Karki is respected among protesters for her tough stance against corruption as a judge. Most protesters are demanding that her government immediately launch corruption investigations against Sharma Oli and other former Nepali ministers.
