Rome, June 15 (Hibya) - Italian Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni announced strong support, together with France, Germany, and the United Kingdom, for the memorandum of understanding signed between the United States and Iran.

Prime Minister Meloni thanked the mediator countries, especially Qatar and Pakistan, for making the agreement possible, stressing that it represents an important opportunity for peace and should be fully utilized.
Meloni stated that Italy is ready to contribute to the diplomatic process and emphasized that Iran must not possess nuclear weapons and that freedom of navigation in the Strait of Hormuz is among the fundamental principles.
She also said that, subject to the necessary parliamentary approval procedures, Italy is prepared to contribute to an international maritime presence aimed at supporting the full reopening of the Strait of Hormuz.
Referring to the broader situation in the Middle East, Meloni stressed that hostilities in Lebanon must also come to an end and that Italy will continue to support Lebanon’s sovereignty.
