Metsola: 80 years have passed since the guns fell silent in Europe
Brussels, May 7 (Hibya) – European Parliament President Roberta Metsola stated that 80 years have passed since the guns fell silent in Europe, honoring the courage of those who fought and the sacrifice of those who fell.
According to a statement from the Parliament, the 80th anniversary of the end of World War II in Europe was commemorated in a plenary ceremony attended by three veterans.
Metsola said: “We are commemorating not only the end of a war, but also the birth of our union. The strongest respect for those who lost their lives lies not just in remembrance, but in resolve. In our determination to unite and to say clearly and firmly: never again.”
European Council President Antonio Costa thanked the veterans for “their sacrifice and commitment to peace.”
