Montenegrin President Jakov Milatovic said Slovakia is a friend and ally of Montenegro and an important partner in completing his country’s accession process to the European Union.

Milatovic said that during his meeting with Slovak President Peter Pellegrini, they discussed Slovakia’s expert support for Montenegro to complete its negotiations with the European Union, as well as initiatives that could provide tangible benefits to Montenegrin citizens.

The meeting particularly focused on stronger cooperation to make more effective use of European funds, support public institutions, increase information sharing and develop opportunities for young people.

Emphasizing that Montenegro’s goal of European Union membership remains in place, Milatovic said: “Montenegro will be the next member of the European Union.”

Milatovic said that to achieve this goal, his country must work responsibly and continue the reform process with determination, adding that completing the European Union accession process is among Montenegro’s priorities.
