Netanyahu unveils Israel's national security doctrine
Jerusalem, October 18 (Hibya) - Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu announced that the country's national security doctrine had been revised following the October 7, 2023 attacks. The new doctrine emphasizes prioritizing preemptive strikes, increasing independence in the defense industry and maintaining superiority in advanced technologies.
Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu publicly unveiled his country's national security doctrine. A statement published on the Israeli Prime Minister's Office social media account said the doctrine had been prepared with contributions from the National Security Council and its director, Shmuel Ben Ezra.
Netanyahu stated that the October 7, 2023 attack had drawn Israel into a wide-ranging war, arguing that military operations extending from Gaza to Yemen and from Lebanon to Iran had changed the country's security approach. Netanyahu claimed that Israel had eliminated the nuclear threat originating from Iran and reduced the influence of the Iranian axis in the region.
According to the statement, the fundamental principles of the new security doctrine include prioritizing threat prevention and offensive capabilities rather than merely containing threats. In this context, conducting preemptive strikes to counter emerging threats was also listed among the doctrine's components.
The doctrine also includes objectives to strengthen Israel's home front defense against new threats, consolidate the country's position as a regional power, achieve the highest possible level of independence in ammunition production and maintain superiority in advanced technologies.
Netanyahu stated that intensifying the fight against antisemitism worldwide was also among the priorities of the new approach. The statement noted that recent developments had created opportunities for Israel to establish new alliances both within and beyond the region.
