One and a half tons of cocaine seized at Russia's St. Petersburg port
St. Petersburg, September 19 (Hibya) – According to the FSB Public Relations Center, one and a half tons of cocaine were seized at the port of St. Petersburg inside a container that arrived from Ecuador.
The statement read: "The Federal Security Service, in cooperation with the Federal Customs Service, foiled a smuggling operation involving an exceptionally large shipment of cocaine."
The seized cocaine was found on August 29 in a banana-laden cargo container that had arrived at St. Petersburg port aboard the Cool Emerald ship from the Republic of Ecuador.
The total weight of the narcotics was 1,750 kilograms (net weight 1,515 kilograms). It was stated that the value of the 1,500 cocaine blocks on the black market exceeded an estimated 20 billion rubles.
The ministry's statement added that the identities of those involved in the incident had been established.
