Pavel discusses UN reform and Security Council candidacy with Guterres and Shahid
Prague, September 22 (Hibya) – Czech President Petr Pavel said the UN General Assembly session provided an opportunity for important meetings and announced that he met with UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres and General Assembly President Abdulla Shahid.
Czech President Petr Pavel announced that he met with António Guterres and Abdulla Shahid one day before the general debate began. Pavel thanked Guterres for his work at the helm of the UN and his efforts to reform the organization.
Pavel said the meeting also addressed the Czech Republic’s candidacy for the UN Security Council, through which the country aims to assume greater responsibility for international security.
Pavel said he and Abdulla Shahid agreed on the need to improve the UN’s operational effectiveness, stating: “Only in this way can we truly prevent conflicts and resolve existing conflicts more effectively.”
