According to a statement by Qatar’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the agreement on establishing diplomatic relations between Qatar and the Republic of Nauru was signed at Qatar’s Permanent Mission to the United Nations in New York.

The agreement was signed on behalf of Qatar by Permanent Representative to the United Nations Sheikha Alya Ahmed bin Saif Al Thani, and on behalf of Nauru by Permanent Representative to the United Nations Lara Erab Daniel.

The statement said the two sides expressed their intention to enhance mutual understanding and strengthen friendship and cooperation. It added that the relations would be based, in accordance with the United Nations Charter and the principles of international law, on maintaining international peace and security, the equality of states, and respect for national sovereignty and territorial integrity.
