Qatar calls for roadmap on Syria's chemical weapons remnants
Doha, October 7 (Hibya) - Qatar called for building on the progress made in eliminating remnants of Syria's chemical weapons program from the former regime era and for establishing a clear roadmap to complete the process.
Qatar's Foreign Ministry said Mutlaq bin Majed Al Qahtani, Qatar's Ambassador to the Netherlands and Permanent Representative to the Organisation for the Prohibition of Chemical Weapons (OPCW), made a statement at the organization's 113th Executive Council Meeting on eliminating remnants of Syria's chemical weapons program.
Al Qahtani said cooperation carried out by Qatar and other countries had contributed to strengthening coordination between the Syrian government and the OPCW Technical Secretariat, sharing information and documents, and supporting verification activities.
Calling for a clear and actionable roadmap between the Technical Secretariat and the Syrian government that sets out a timeline, implementation phases and priorities to complete the process, Al Qahtani stressed the importance of fully and verifiably eliminating the remnants in accordance with the Chemical Weapons Convention and OPCW decisions.
Al Qahtani also called on states parties to support the Syrian government in fulfilling its obligations under the convention.
