Qatar participates in Great Lakes Region Peace Process meeting
Doha, Jan. 18 (Hibya) – The State of Qatar took part in a high-level meeting titled “Enhancing and Coordinating the Peace Process in the Democratic Republic of the Congo (DRC) and the Great Lakes Region,” held in Lomé, the capital of Togo.
The meeting discussed practical steps to address the humanitarian crisis in the region and to achieve sustainable peace in the DRC and the Great Lakes Region.
According to the Qatari Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Qatar was represented at the key meeting, hosted by Togo, by Ahmed Essa Al Sulaiti, Adviser to the Minister of State at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
The main agenda items focused on finding solutions to the ongoing humanitarian crisis in the Great Lakes Region and establishing lasting peace. The meeting is particularly significant as it followed the signing of the Doha Peace Framework Agreement, brokered by Qatar between the Government of the Democratic Republic of the Congo and the Congo River Alliance (M23 Movement).
The Ministry noted that this participation reflects the continued momentum of efforts to promote peace and stability in the region and underscores Qatar’s commitment to international peace diplomacy.
