US Secretary of State Marco Rubio announced a new sanctions decision targeting the network of military-controlled companies in Cuba.

Describing the Cuban government as “corrupt, repressive and anti-American,” Rubio said, “The GAESA network uses the country’s limited resources for repression and the interests of the regime instead of meeting the needs of the Cuban people.”

Rubio stated that several entities linked to GAESA were targeted under the new sanctions and emphasized that banks and companies continuing to provide services to these entities could also face the risk of sanctions.
