Russia summons Belgian ambassador to Foreign Ministry
Moscow, October 14 (Hibya) - Russia’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs said Belgium’s ambassador to Moscow, Michel Gerebtzoff, was summoned to the ministry on October 13, where the Russian side expressed its reaction to statements by Belgian officials regarding Russia.
Russia’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs announced that Belgium’s ambassador to Moscow, Michel Gerebtzoff, was summoned to the ministry on October 13.
In a statement, the ministry argued that remarks by Belgium’s military and political leadership about alleged Russia-originated hybrid threats, sabotage attempts and direct military threats against Belgium and Europe were unfounded. It said the Russian side categorically rejected the claims.
The statement also alleged that aggressive rhetoric by some Belgian officials portraying Russia as an enemy was escalating tensions and increasing the risk of a conflict that could spiral out of control.
The statement said the Belgian side was urged to assess the consequences of its remarks and limit its anti-Russian rhetoric, adding that such rhetoric was contributing to a further rise in tensions across the European continent.
