Dutch Prime Minister Schoof stated that ahead of the summit to be held on Friday in Alaska, further discussions were held between the international partners – the United States and Ukraine – on the basic principles of a ceasefire.

He said that he spoke with UK Prime Minister Keir Starmer about these talks, and that they agreed on the main preconditions for a ceasefire.

Schoof emphasized that Ukraine must be able to decide its own future and be brought to the negotiating table as soon as possible, adding:

“No decisions about Ukraine can be made without Ukraine. Ukraine needs strong security guarantees. In the meantime, it is vital to continue putting pressure on Russia as we move toward our ultimate goal of a just and lasting peace.”
