Prime Minister Schoof stated that today’s European Council agenda is extensive.

He noted that they will discuss the war in Ukraine in the presence of President Zelensky, saying: “Our support for Ukraine and the pressure we exert on Russia are vital for European solidarity and the security of Europe. It is particularly important to put Ukraine in the strongest possible position to end the war.”

Schoof highlighted the need to strengthen European defense, stating: “It is positive that there is a roadmap bringing together all initiatives where the EU can play a role, including strengthening European and Ukrainian defense industries and increasing Europe’s capabilities.”

He added: “The Netherlands wants to focus more on the fair distribution of military aid to Ukraine, swiftly remove unnecessary and restrictive regulations, and continue close cooperation with non-EU partners such as the U.S., the U.K., Canada, and Norway. We will also address the latest developments in the Middle East, Europe’s competitiveness, climate, housing, and migration.”
