Sharif: Threat to Mecca’s security is a red line
Islamabad, September 26 (Hibya) – Pakistani Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif voiced support for Saudi Arabia in his address to the United Nations General Assembly, condemned an attempted drone attack on Mecca, and said threats to the security of the Two Holy Mosques are unacceptable.
Pakistani Prime Minister Sharif voiced support for Saudi Arabia in his address during the 81st Session of the United Nations General Assembly and reiterated Pakistan’s commitment to regional peace.
Sharif said they condemned in the strongest terms the Houthis’ recent attacks on Saudi Arabia, adding that the attempted drone attack on Mecca had prompted reactions from Muslims around the world.
Sharif said any threat to the security and sanctity of the Two Holy Mosques is a red line that must not be crossed, adding that Pakistan stands in solidarity with the Saudi people.
Sharif said Pakistan’s commitment to regional peace was also reflected in the Joint Defense Agreement signed in Mecca between Saudi Arabia, Türkiye and Pakistan. Stating that the alliance is not directed against any state, Sharif said the agreement represents a collective commitment to defense, stability and peace in the region.
