Sybiha: Hungary and Slovakia cannot hold the entire European Union hostage
Kyiv, 23 February (Hibya) - Ukrainian Foreign Minister Andrii Sybiha addressed the positions of Hungary and Slovakia at the EU Foreign Affairs Council meeting.
Ukrainian Foreign Minister Andrii Sybiha made a statement following the European Union (EU) Foreign Affairs Council meeting on the fourth anniversary of Russia’s invasion.
Drawing attention to the policies of certain member states, Sybiha said: “Today at the EU Foreign Affairs Council, I reiterated that Hungary and Slovakia’s ultimatums should be directed solely at the Kremlin. These two countries cannot hold the entire EU hostage. We call on both to engage in constructive cooperation and responsible behavior.”
Thanking Europe for its support, Sybiha stated: “I thanked the EU and our European partners for their strong support in helping us protect all of Europe and our fundamental principles of justice, truth, and freedom. Putin completely miscalculated on Ukraine. Russia tried to intimidate and divide Europe, but instead faced unprecedented unity and a new European power that is rearming and expanding.”
Sharing his assessment of the peace process and Russia’s stance, Sybiha concluded: “I emphasized Ukraine’s readiness to advance peace and advocated for greater European involvement in the peace process, while also highlighting the leadership of the United States. We still see no sign that Russia is willing to end the war or take serious steps toward peace, and we recommend increasing pressure on Moscow.”
