Szijjarto announced that Orban’s meeting with Putin has concluded.

He stated that they achieved what they expected from the meeting: “Hungary’s energy security is guaranteed. President Putin confirmed that Russia will deliver, on time and in full, the amounts of oil and natural gas specified in the contract via both the Druzhba oil pipeline and the TurkStream gas pipeline.”

Szijjarto added that they also reached an agreement on accelerating the construction of the Paks Nuclear Power Plant, saying:

“All technical preparations are progressing according to schedule, and on 5 February, work on-site will begin. This step is of great importance for Hungary’s long-term, stable and cost-effective energy supply.”

Regarding the war in Ukraine, Orban once again emphasized that Hungary stands for peace.

Szijjarto said: “To those who question or misinterpret the meeting, we want to make this clear: Hungary, as a sovereign state, pursues a sovereign foreign policy. All the decisions we take are entirely based on our national interests. Our cooperation with Russia is grounded in mutual respect and the realities of energy security. Today’s meeting has strengthened exactly this approach.”
