Trump postpones 50% tariffs on EU until July 9
Washington, May 26 (Hibya) – U.S. President Donald Trump said on Sunday that he had agreed to extend the deadline for imposing 50% tariffs on the European Union until July 9.
Trump's announcement came after European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen said she had a "good conversation" with him but needed time until July 9 to "reach a good agreement."
Trump wrote on Truth Social: "Today I received a phone call from European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen, requesting an extension of the June 1 deadline regarding the 50% Tariff related to Trade and the European Union. I granted the extension (until July 9, 2025). It was my privilege to do so."
Trump’s statement came after von der Leyen said she had a "good conversation" with him but needed time until July 9 to reach "a good agreement."
Von der Leyen wrote on X: "The EU and the U.S. share one of the most important and closest trade relationships in the world. Europe is ready to move the talks forward swiftly and decisively."
