UN issues urgent appeal for humanitarian aid in Gaza
New York, 17 November (Hibya) – UN Coordinator for Humanitarian Affairs and Emergency Relief, Tom Fletcher, issued an urgent call for humanitarian assistance, drawing attention to the difficult conditions in Gaza following heavy rainfall.
Fletcher stated that after the rains, Palestinians were left in the cold and underwater, with rising floodwaters destroying even the last belongings people still had. He said the situation is rapidly deteriorating and frustration in Gaza is increasing.
He noted that the UN and its partners have mobilized to provide aid, but emphasized that this is not enough. Fletcher added that existing restrictions must be lifted immediately to allow more humanitarian assistance to reach the region.
