Von der Leyen: Europe stands with the International Criminal Court
Brussels, October 22 (Hibya) - European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen welcomed the awarding of the Sakharov Prize to the International Criminal Court, emphasizing that the court must be able to operate independently.
European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen announced that she welcomed the decision to award the Sakharov Prize to the International Criminal Court. Von der Leyen stated that justice for the victims of the world's gravest crimes means ensuring that their voices are heard.
Emphasizing that the court must be able to carry out its duties independently, free from pressure and intimidation, von der Leyen stated that Europe strongly supports Court President Tomoko Akane, the judges and officials, and their work.
