Von der Leyen praises Lagarde: The world needs more leaders like you
Brussels, October 29 (Hibya) - European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen thanked Christine Lagarde for her contributions to Europe and the euro, highlighting her efforts to maintain economic stability and strengthen the international role of the European currency.
Addressing Lagarde in a statement, von der Leyen said, "Thank you, Christine, for everything you have done for Europe and the euro." She noted that from the COVID-19 pandemic to Russia's war of aggression, Lagarde's approach had helped the European economy remain stable and resilient. Von der Leyen also highlighted her efforts to deepen financial integration.
Referring to Lagarde's international role, von der Leyen stated, "On the world stage, you represent what every currency needs: trust and authority." Von der Leyen said that through this approach, Lagarde had strengthened Europe's economic sovereignty and reinforced the euro's international standing.
The European Commission President concluded her statement by expressing her hope that more women would take on leadership roles, saying, "The world needs more leaders like you. I hope many more women will follow in your footsteps."
