German Foreign Minister Wadephul met with the Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Türkiye, Hakan Fidan. The two ministers held a joint press conference.

Wadephul stated that Türkiye is not only an ally within NATO but also a strategic partner for them.

He noted that the scale of the humanitarian catastrophe and destruction in Gaza is only now becoming fully apparent, adding, “Germany supports the United Nations and other humanitarian actors.”

Wadephul expressed his desire for the development of EU-Türkiye relations, saying, “We want to update the customs union. We want visa liberalization. We want to build a positive agenda. If Türkiye wishes to join the European Union, Germany will always be a reliable partner.”
