Geneva, April 28 (Hibya) – The World Health Organization (WHO) has called for urgent action to end the trend of female genital mutilation (FGM) and to prevent this practice.

In its call, the WHO stated: "FGM, which remains widely practiced in around 30 countries, involves the partial or total removal of external female genitalia or other injury to the female genital organs for non-medical reasons. As of 2020, it is estimated that about 52 million girls and women have been subjected to FGM by health workers, accounting for approximately a quarter of all cases."
