WHO: Monkeypox cases reported in 42 countries
Geneva, October 31 (Hibya) – The World Health Organization (WHO) announced that in September 2025, a total of 3,135 confirmed monkeypox cases and 12 deaths were reported across 42 countries.
According to a WHO statement, 3,135 confirmed cases of monkeypox and 12 deaths were reported in 42 countries in September 2025.
The statement noted that local transmission of the clade Ib strain is increasing among communities outside Africa, with most cases occurring among men who have sex with men.
The WHO assessed the monkeypox risk as low for the general population and moderate for men who have sex with men.
