Wong: The Pacific Islands Forum plays a key role for a peaceful and prosperous Pacific
Canberra, Jan. 27 (Hibya) — Australian Foreign Minister Penny Wong emphasized that the Pacific Islands Forum (PIF) is a fundamental platform for realizing regional leaders’ vision of peace, stability and prosperity.
Australian Foreign Minister Penny Wong said that the PIF plays a key role in achieving Pacific leaders’ goal of a peaceful, stable and prosperous region.
Wong expressed her satisfaction at hosting leaders from the Solomon Islands, Tonga and Palau, along with the Secretary General of the Pacific Islands Forum, in Brisbane as part of the PIF Troika meeting. Regional cooperation, shared priorities and issues concerning the future of the Pacific were discussed at the meeting.
Underlining the importance Australia places on close dialogue and cooperation with Pacific countries, Wong noted that the work carried out under the Forum’s umbrella contributes to strengthening regional peace and stability.
