Zelensky: We are ready for an energy ceasefire if Russia stops attacks on our energy infrastructure
Warsaw, October 12 (Hibya) - Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky said Ukraine would abide by an energy ceasefire if Russia stops attacking the country's energy infrastructure. Speaking at the Warsaw Security Forum, Zelensky said Russia had attacked a natural gas facility and a fuel station in Ukraine despite declaring a ceasefire.
Ukrainian President Zelensky commented on the possibility of an energy ceasefire with Russia during his speech at the Warsaw Security Forum.
Zelensky said Ukraine had previously supported the proposal for an energy ceasefire and stated that if Russia stops attacks on Ukraine's energy system and critical infrastructure, Ukraine is ready to halt its long-range strikes on Russian oil refineries and oil exports.
Emphasizing that Ukraine's main energy problem is electricity supply, Zelensky said Russia has targeted power generation facilities and the electricity grid for years. He noted that attacks intensify during the winter months and that the country experiences power outages every day.
Zelensky said Ukraine supports US initiatives on an energy ceasefire and would comply with it if Russia acts in the same way.
Zelensky said there were no fires at Russian oil refineries the previous night, but after midnight a natural gas production facility in Ukraine was targeted by a jet-powered Shahed-type drone. He also said a fuel station was attacked by multiple drones and that repair crews continue working to fix damage caused by the previous day's attacks.
Zelensky argued that Russia violated the energy ceasefire announced by US President Donald Trump, saying that more jet-powered Shahed-type drones entered the airspace over Kyiv and other Ukrainian cities in the morning.
Zelensky said they are awaiting details of talks between the United States and Russia, as well as the concrete steps the US is prepared to take.
In his speech, Zelensky also addressed operations against Russian data centers and the targeting of Yandex data centers.
Zelensky claimed that hate speech, polarization and provocations on social media platforms declined after these attacks, arguing that this pointed to the influence of bot accounts originating from Russia.
Zelensky said Europe is not the source of the problems and stressed the importance of the US public accurately following developments in Europe.
