Kyiv, August 29 (Hibya) – Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky, in a message issued for August 29, commemorated Ukrainian soldiers who lost their lives in the Russia-Ukraine war and all fighters who defended their country.
Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky, in a message issued for August 29, commemorated Ukrainian soldiers who lost their lives in the Russia-Ukraine war and all fighters who defended their country.
Zelensky said August 29 is a “very important” and “special day” for Ukraine. He said Ukraine has been at war with Russia since 2014 and in a full-scale war since 2022, adding that the heroes who fought and lost their lives during this period are commemorated.
Zelensky said: “August 29 is a very important day, a special day. Today, we remember our heroes, our fallen heroes, all our defenders who have fought in the full-scale war since 2022 and in the disgusting war, the hybrid war since 2014 – the war Russia is waging against Ukraine, against the Ukrainian people.”
Zelensky said thousands of Ukrainian fighters continue to defend the country’s positions on the front. He said Ukrainians are losing their lives in Russian attacks and that efforts are under way to push the war away from Ukraine and carry it onto Russian territory.
Emphasizing long-range strikes in particular in this context, Zelensky said: “Now, while thousands and thousands of our fighters defend Ukraine’s positions on the front, while our people are being killed in Russian attacks, while we do everything to drive this war out of Ukraine and carry it into Russia, first and foremost with our long-range strikes, we remember that all of this is our active action, that all of this is our living memory, our active memory.”
Zelensky said the actions of those who fought to defend Ukraine must not be forgotten.
Saying that the memory of Ukraine’s heroes, of those who did not surrender to Russia and defended the country’s right to exist as itself, is being kept alive, Zelensky said: “The memory of the actions of Ukraine’s heroes, the memory of the actions of every man and woman who did not surrender to Russia and defended Ukraine’s right to be itself.”
Zelensky said they honor Ukrainian fighters and the courage of the Ukrainian people and remember everyone who gave their life so that the country could live.
At the end of his message, Zelensky said: “We remember everyone who gave their life for Ukraine, so that Ukraine could live. Thank you. Thank you to our fallen heroes. Thank you to all the warriors of our state.”
