7.2 magnitude earthquake off the coast of Kamchatka
Moscow, September 18 (Hibya) – A 7.2 magnitude earthquake struck off the coast of Kamchatka in eastern Russia.
Information about the earthquake was released by the Kamchatka branch of the Geophysical Research Institute of the Russian Academy of Sciences (FIC RAS).
The epicenter of the quake, recorded at 18:58:17 local time (UTC), was determined to be at 53.38° north latitude and 159.92° east longitude. It was reported that the earthquake occurred at a depth of 123 kilometers.
Following the quake, the U.S. National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) issued a tsunami threat warning.
