A maximum X-class solar flare occurred on the Sun
Moscow, February 2 (Hibya) - The Solar Astronomy Laboratory of the Space Research Institute of the Russian Academy of Sciences reported that a maximum X-class solar flare with a strength of X8.11 has occurred.
In a post on the institution’s Telegram channel, it said: “There is a solar flare of magnitude X8.11. Earth is not yet in the zone of direct impact.”
This is the third solar flare of this magnitude since the beginning of the year. The previous two major flares occurred on February 1 and January 18.
Powerful solar storms can disrupt shortwave communication and navigation systems and may also cause power outages in industrial grids. Increased solar activity can expand the geographical range of aurora observations. However, there is still no definitive answer as to whether magnetic storms affect human health.
