Ahmed Ali: We are turning Ethiopia into a regional hub for precious metals refining
Addis Ababa, October 10 (Hibya) - Ethiopian Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed Ali announced that the National Precious Metals Refinery in the Bole Lemi Special Economic Zone has begun operations with an annual processing capacity of more than 600 tons of precious metals.
Ethiopian Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed Ali announced the opening of the National Precious Metals Refinery, established through a partnership between Ethiopian Investment Holdings (EIH) and Sam Precious Metals.
The facility, established in the Bole Lemi Special Economic Zone, was reported to have an annual processing capacity of more than 600 tons of precious metals.
Abiy said the investment aims to develop the country’s mining sector, enable precious metals to be processed domestically and turn Ethiopia into a regional refining hub.
The project is expected to increase export revenues, create skilled employment, support the jewelry sector and strengthen transparency in the gold supply chain.
