Berendsen: Violence in Lebanon must end
The Hague, April 16 (Hibya) – Dutch Foreign Minister Tom Berendsen stated after his meeting with Gideon Saar that he welcomed direct contacts between Israel and Lebanon.
Berendsen stated that recent developments between Israel and Lebanon were discussed during the meeting, emphasizing that violence in Lebanon and Hezbollah’s attacks against Israel must immediately cease.
Referring to Iran, Berendsen also highlighted the importance of a diplomatic solution, stressing that this process is critical for regional stability and that freedom of navigation, especially in the Strait of Hormuz, must be preserved.
Berendsen also expressed concerns regarding the proposed death penalty legislation in Israel and the detention conditions of children, condemning the approval of 34 new settlements in the occupied West Bank and stating that they oppose all attempts at annexation.
Addressing antisemitic incidents in the Netherlands, Berendsen said such acts are unacceptable and emphasized that ensuring the safety of the Jewish community and combating antisemitism are among the top priorities.
