Brazilian President Lula da Silva held a video conference meeting with Mexican President Sheinbaum.

Lula said they discussed bilateral relations between Brazil and Mexico, as well as regional and international developments.

Expressing satisfaction with the positive progress in talks between Petrobras and Mexico's state-owned oil company PEMEX following the memorandum of understanding signed in June, Lula said they expect joint projects between the two companies to begin soon.

Lula also reiterated the commitment to maintaining the negotiation timetable established during Brazilian Vice President Geraldo Alckmin's visit to Mexico last year.

The meeting also welcomed the restoration of diplomatic relations between Mexico and Peru. Lula emphasized the importance of dialogue among Latin American countries.

Lula expressed their sorrow over the disasters in Venezuela and Colombia and said they also voiced concern about the humanitarian crisis in Cuba.

The Brazilian president said he conveyed to Sheinbaum his wife Janja Lula da Silva's proposal to launch an international initiative against femicide, adding that the Mexican president showed great interest in the proposal.

The two leaders also reaffirmed their shared position in defense of multilateralism and expressed support for Michelle Bachelet's candidacy for United Nations Secretary-General.

At the end of the meeting, Lula said the two countries continue to demonstrate resilience in the face of challenges arising from international developments and announced that they had agreed to maintain high-level contacts to advance issues of common interest.
