Carney: Nearly $10 billion investment agreement reached for Quebec
Quebec, June 3 (Hibya) - Canadian Prime Minister Mark Carney announced an investment package worth nearly $10 billion under a new agreement with the Quebec government to strengthen transportation, healthcare, energy, and housing infrastructure.
The Canadian government announced a comprehensive investment program aimed at modernizing infrastructure across the country. Prime Minister Mark Carney stated that, in a “rapidly changing world,” Canada would strengthen economic and regional integration through large-scale infrastructure projects in the new era.
The plan includes investments in social infrastructure such as hospitals, public transit systems, metro lines, and community centers, alongside ports, mines, highways, and energy infrastructure. Through these projects, the government aims to strengthen interregional connectivity and expand Canada’s access to global markets.
According to the announcement, nearly $10 billion will be invested over the next 10 years under a new partnership framework between the federal government and the province of Quebec.
Under the program: more than $2.5 billion will be allocated for housing, university campuses, and community centers; over $1 billion will be invested in the modernization of hospitals and healthcare infrastructure; more than $6 billion will be dedicated to public transit infrastructure; and an additional $400 million will be provided for zero-emission transportation projects.
The federal government also stated that the infrastructure investments would support economic growth, create jobs, and make a significant contribution to Canada’s GDP over the next decade.
The statement further noted that Infrastructure and Housing Minister Gregor Robertson described the program as an investment wave of “unprecedented scale” across the country.
Officials emphasized that the projects are intended not only to drive economic growth but also to improve quality of life and reduce regional inequalities.
