Chinese leader Xi Jinping calls on all countries to abide by international law
Stockholm, 5 January (Hibya) – During a meeting with the Irish Prime Minister, Chinese President Xi Jinping said that unilateral intimidation has seriously undermined the international order and that all countries must comply with international law and the UN Charter.
Xi Jinping said: “Today’s world is full of change and chaos, and unilateral bullying has seriously undermined the international order. All countries should respect the development paths independently chosen by the peoples of other countries and abide by international law and the purposes and principles of the UN Charter. Major powers should set an example.”
The Chinese president noted that China and Ireland support multilateralism and uphold justice and equality at the international level, stressing that countries should jointly safeguard the authority of the United Nations.
The Chinese leader also recalled that Ireland will assume the rotating presidency of the EU in the second half of 2026, expressing hope that Ireland will play a constructive role in the healthy and stable development of China–EU relations.
Irish Prime Minister Micheál Martin said that Ireland is firmly committed to the “one China” policy and is determined to strengthen and develop the strategic partnership between the two countries.
The Irish prime minister said: “The stable development of relations between the EU and China is of vital importance. Ireland is ready to play a constructive role in promoting the healthy development of relations between the EU and China.”
