Croatian Prime Minister Andrej Plenkovic assessed current developments in the country during a meeting of the HDZ Presidency and the National Committee. Plenkovic said the government continues measures aimed at protecting citizens and the economy from rising oil prices.

Plenkovic said oil prices on global markets continue to rise and noted that, thanks to government measures, diesel is sold 31 cents per liter cheaper and gasoline 20 cents cheaper.

Plenkovic said that as part of the energy crisis, the Croatian government adopted measures under its 11th aid package worth 260 million euros, adding that support for the most vulnerable citizens continues and that the aim is to protect the economy.

Plenkovic said they submitted several legislative proposals to the Croatian Parliament, including a new Waste Management Act and amendments to criminal legislation.

Plenkovic said the package of criminal laws provides for harsher penalties for crimes such as murder, intentional arson and ecocide, and added that a comprehensive bill aimed at addressing existing injustices toward Croatian veterans has also been prepared.

Plenkovic said the regulation in question is being considered for the third time during their terms in office.

Plenkovic said the meeting also addressed the issue of industrial waste treatment in Gospic, adding that the Environmental Protection Fund has made decisions regarding the covering of buried waste.

Plenkovic said the Nexe cement plant in Nasice and Holcim in Rasa will take over the non-hazardous waste in bags and that this does not pose a threat to citizens' health. He added that the Environmental Protection Fund is expected to decide soon on the disposal of scattered waste.

Plenkovic said the industrial plan will be completed by September 20 and announced that a Scientific Council has been established to provide academic and expert input on the issue, support comprehensive analysis and contribute to public debate.

Plenkovic also said they will attend the “Aktualac” session in the Croatian Parliament tomorrow and brief parliament on European Council (EUCO) meetings.
