EU Commissioner congratulates Spain on 40th anniversary of EU membership
Brussels, May 5 (Hibya) - The European Commissioner for Enlargement marked the 40th anniversary of Spain’s accession to the European Union at events held in Madrid.
The European Commissioner for Enlargement attended celebrations in Madrid marking the 40th anniversary of Spain’s membership in the European Union.
During the visit, the Commissioner met with Jose Manuel Albares and said he was pleased to have the opportunity to commemorate this important milestone together.
The statement noted that Spain is one of the most advanced democracies in the world, plays a leading role in civil rights, has a dynamic and innovative economy, and is among the leading countries in the green transition.
The Commissioner also emphasized that the EU enlargement policy plays a critical role in enabling candidate countries to achieve similar successes and in strengthening the values of the European Union across a wider geographical area.
