German Chancellor Merz: We have tightened border controls
Berlin, 26 November (Hibya) – German Chancellor Friedrich Merz announced that they have tightened border controls, accelerated asylum procedures, and suspended family reunification for those under subsidiary protection status.
Chancellor Merz stated that Germany is once again deciding who can enter the country and who can stay.
Merz emphasized that border controls have been tightened, asylum procedures accelerated, and family reunification for people with subsidiary protection has been suspended. “We continue to work at a high pace for a comprehensive European solution,” he said.
He also noted that young people today are in a particular situation: “They rightfully expect us to resolve the challenges we face. We are fulfilling this long-overdue responsibility: we want to hand over our country in a better condition from generation to generation.”
