Ghebreyesus: Trans fats are one of the leading causes of heart disease
Geneva, September 6 (Hibya) - World Health Organization (WHO) Director-General Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus highlighted the negative effects of trans fats on health and called for an end to the use of artificial trans fats worldwide.
In his statement, Ghebreyesus emphasized that trans fats are toxic and harmful, adding that they are one of the leading causes of heart disease. However, he noted that this problem can be solved, stating, "A world free of artificial trans fats is possible."
The statement provided examples of countries that have limited the use of trans fats. Austria, Norway, Oman, and Singapore were noted as leaders in this area, and other countries were urged to adopt these practices.
WHO called on world leaders to take the necessary steps to completely remove trans fats from the food chain in order to protect public health.
