Greenland’s capital Nuuk completely without electricity
Stockholm, January 25 (Hibya) – The national energy company Nukissiorfiit announced in a post on Facebook that the entire capital of Greenland, Nuuk, has been left without electricity.
The company stated that it is working to resolve the problem and restore electricity using emergency generators. According to local newspaper Sermitsiaq, the outage was caused by an accident. Many residents reported that the power outage has been ongoing since 22:30.
Electricity company Nukissiorfiit said that work is underway regarding the issue.
In a statement from the company, it was said: “Due to an accident, there is a citywide power outage. Nukissiorfiit is working to restore electricity using emergency generators.”
The Greenland Police warned that the emergency telephone line could be affected by the power outage. Authorities later announced that by Sunday morning, electricity had been restored to about half of the city; at 02:15 all engines at the power plant were operational and electricity had returned to approximately half of Nuuk.
